Grok Is Now a Real Co-Pilot Option

Grok 4.5 and 4.6 have finally arrived. With it’s new capabilities, it can now act as a full business copilot ecosystem the same way Claude does. The recent model update closed the biggest gaps that used to make it unsuitable for serious project work.

Strategy and Code in One Thread

The single biggest practical difference is that strategy work and code work live in the same thread. In Claude you still act as the middleman: coming up with ideas in Claude Chat, and hand a prompt to Claude Code to build something, bring the result back, test, repeat. On a heavy build day that loop can eat hours. Grok builds and iterates inside the conversation. You stay in one place.

It is also stronger at documents and decks in current testing, has direct access to real-time X data for market or news work, and the effective cost of heavy build activity tends to land lower once you are past the subscription threshold. Grokbot adds another option for scheduled, cloud-based tasks that continue after you close the laptop.

Trade-offs and Migration Cost

There are trade-offs. The experience is a little more open-ended and the careful co-pilot responses can feel slower because the system is reading the full guide and checking alignment before it answers. Moving an existing setup with many integrations is real work. If your main use is pure strategy and thinking, the lift is smaller. If you live in project management, GitHub, cloud servers, and multiple APIs, the migration cost is higher.

Running Both

For most users the decision is not binary. You can keep Claude as the primary system and stand up a parallel Grok co-pilot for the work that benefits from strategy-plus-code in one thread. The files transfer cleanly: ask Claude to surface everything in the project, download, load into Grok, and give it a short orientation prompt. The conversation setup is the same.

I am still running both while I stress-test quality on the kinds of builds I deliver. The coding convenience is the factor that could tip the balance for my own work.

Decide Whether Grok Belongs in Your Stack

List the jobs that currently force you to shuttle between strategy chat and a separate code tool.
Test one of those jobs end-to-end in Grok and time the loop.
Check whether real-time news or market data matters for any of your recurring work.
If you already pay for X Premium or SuperGrok, the incremental cost of using it as a co-pilot is low.
Keep Claude as primary until the migration cost is clearly justified by time saved.

This post came out of a real conversation at the AI Essentials Roundtable, the small group I run for business owners who want to actually use AI instead of just reading about it. We meet every other week, screen-share real builds, and steal each other’s wins. If that sounds useful, details are here: tablelandpartners.com/ai_essentials_roundtable
