Your A.I. Can Now Click Through Websites For You.

A.I. Assistants Can Now Book Appointments and Show Your Inventory. Is Your Company Showing Up?
A customer does not have to open your website anymore. They can ask ChatGPT for a reservation, ask Gemini to call a plumber who is open right now, or ask Claude for flights on Monday. The assistant answers with whatever listing it can see. If that listing is stale, the assistant still sounds sure.
I told the Roundtable this week: open your Angi, Thumbtack, OpenTable, or Zocdoc page and read it the way an assistant will quote it. Hours. Photos. Old reviews. A dead phone number. That is now the version a machine will read out loud. Fix it if its wrong.
What actually books, and what only points
There are two layers, and mixing them up is how people get burned.
Layer 1 is a named app inside the chat. ChatGPT can find and book a table through OpenTable and Resy in the U.S., and through Yelp in the U.S. and Canada. Gemini can book and manage OpenTable reservations in the U.S. and U.K., and it can put a Zocdoc doctor on the calendar. Angi and Thumbtack are wired into Gemini so a home-services search points at your listing. Claude Chat can find a Resy table. The diner still finishes on Resy. Do not tell people Claude books the table.
Layer 2 is a signed-in browser. Claude Cowork, Claude Code, ChatGPT Agent, and Grok Bot can open a real page and click. That is a different job.
| If a customer asks | What finishes in the chat | What you should be listed on |
|---|---|---|
| Book me a table Friday at 7 | ChatGPT: OpenTable, Resy (U.S.), Yelp (U.S. + Canada). Gemini: OpenTable U.S. + U.K. | OpenTable, Resy, or Yelp Guest Manager |
| Find a doctor this week | Gemini can surface and start a Zocdoc booking | Zocdoc. Providers already on Zocdoc become bookable in Gemini with no extra setup |
| Find a plumber open now | Gemini points at Angi and Thumbtack. It does not close the job by itself | Angi and Thumbtack |
| What can I buy from you tonight | Only if you built a live list the assistant can read | Start with a chat box on your own site. Schema and connectors come after |
Three paths to getting found, easiest first
Want your customers to order and book your products and services from AI?
Path 1. On your site
They already came to you. A chat box on your page can see your list. Live stock. Tonight’s count. They never leave your shop. No Claude account required.
This is the one to ship first if you sell things that change during the day. A garden center, a distributor, a clinic with open slots, a restaurant with a floor chart. The box answers from your list, not from a page that was crawled last Tuesday.
How you do it: put a chat on the page that already has the customer. Point it at a simple list you already keep (hours, SKUs, open appointments). Keep the buy button on your site. Do not send them into a third-party chat to finish.
Path 2. On the open web
A stranger can find what you sell. You put labels on a public page. Any AI assistant can read them. No connector needed. The answer is only as fresh as the page.
This is how restaurants on OpenTable showed up in ChatGPT in August. OpenTable said its LLM partnerships, including Google, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Perplexity, drove far more seated diners year over year. The restaurant did not build a custom bot. It stayed current on a network the AI assistants already trust.
Same idea for everyone else, just smaller. Add clear, boring labels to a public page: who you are, where you are, what you sell, hours, price range, whether you take walk-ins. Search engines call this schema. You can think of it as a sign on the door that a machine can read. Good for “we sell X.” Bad for “how many of X tonight.”
How you do it: pick one page you already rank for. Put the facts in plain sentences. Then add the matching schema (LocalBusiness, Product, or Offer). Google your business name on a phone that is not signed into the owner account. If the public card is wrong, fix that before you touch anything else.
Path 3. Build a Small MCP for AI
A repeat buyer adds your connector once to whatever AI they use. Then they ask “Claude, does Grocers Plus have five T-bones available right now”?
Zocdoc published the health version of this this month. Partners can plug into its booking system with a data feed, an API, or an MCP server built for AI chats. Gemini is already using that pipe. Providers on Zocdoc did not have to invent their own assistant.
You only need Path 3 when the same customer keeps asking Claude, and you want that chat to see live inventory instead of last week’s page.
What this means on Monday
If you are a restaurant, spa, clinic, or home-services shop and you are not on the network that AI assistants already use, you are invisible in that chat. Ranking on Google is a different fight, covered in the next post. Showing up when someone says “book it” is this fight.
If you sell stock that moves, Path 1 and 3 are your path to showing up.
- Open the listing an assistant will quote: Angi, Thumbtack, OpenTable, Resy, Yelp, or Zocdoc.
- Read hours, phone, photos, and the last three reviews as if you were the customer.
- Fix the public page, not only the dashboard.
- If you take bookings, confirm you are on the network that chat already uses.
- If you sell live stock, put a chat box on your own site before you chase a connector.
Want the click-through version of this, the part where your AI opens a page and brings the file back? That is the third post from this call. The Google version of “are you even in the answer” is the second.
